I'm about to do a valve clearance check on my bike. I feel very confident that i will be succesful in doing so after watching this video tutorial. I have seen some of your other videos also and i really like them. You have a very pleasant voice to listen to, and you are very calm and methodical. I appreciate the time and effort you put into videos like this one. Big thanks from Sweden, you are the greatest Tim!

Your videos are awesome. I followed step by step and ran into a problem. I got to bottom to TDC. The intake cam is perfectly level. The exhaust is about 10 degrees above where it should be. My thought is to take it all apart and align the cams then check the shims??? Thanks for the help.

Hi Tim. I echo comments below. Having looked at what is available commercially (£175 in the UK) and the various DIY options, yours seems to be the simplest. Plus your comment about keeping the height as low as possible to make it easier to use the centre stand. Inserting a flat piece of wood under the rear wheel to lift the bike a little would also help to get the bike on its centre stand while on the turntable. Also a useful comment about your experience simply leaving the bike parked on the turntable when not being used. Thanks

Hey Tim, I have an 08 KLR and it’s a little small for my gear and a passenger. I’ve been considering an RT or GS. Had a chance to ride a GS, I think it’s a 95 or 97 model. I found when I put my feet down to stop, my legs want to be right where the foot pegs are. Either have to put my legs in front or behind the foot peg to maintain a narrower stance, or at the ends of the foot pegs with a wider stance, which is more difficult on gravel. Wondering if you’ve found that to be a problem, or if the newer GS has the foot pegs a little further forward? Thanks.

I did just find a video on how to bleed the system. That was very good. Apparently you’re supposed to raise it up on jackstands with the engine off do five cycles back-and-forth on the steering wheel all the way left all the way right and then four pumps on the brakes and apparently you have to do that like 90 times maybeand then when you start the vehicle if that amount of fluid goes down at all, that means you still have air in the line

The dB meter is an indication, not logic why the new horn is louder at larger distance. For automobiles the tone is more important than the sound level. Nice with a quick solution without rewiring a part of the bike and no errors from the CAN bus

What a fabulous presentation. I've just purchased a 2012 KLR and want to do my own servicing, so your site will act as a go-to. One minor point, l wonder if the radiator fan screws aren't Phillips Head, but rather JIS? The clarity of your explanations and video quality are superb. Thank you for putting in so much effort.

I feel like you have an extra zero on your upper tolerance changing it to be the lower. This makes it that you have adjusted all 4 out of spec. Ya wanna hear a funny one. I owned a 99 with a Sargent seat I put on 15 years ago. It still looked new last week. I was selling my bike as I was buying a newer model being 2016. Told the wife I was going to swap seats after buying it. Wife told me I should sell my bike first in case it takes a while. I said I would prefer not to. She said list it so I did. 26 Facebook replies. Sold it within 24 hours. Then wife says you got extra money for newer bike. I says yeah but I have to spend 500 for a new frigging seat meaning the good deal ain't so good. I loved the look she gave me. lol. I am going to look at widening and dishing it a bit. We have 2 electric knives. They are great for cutting insulation as well. I will probably then get it professionally covered at an upholstery shop.

In the other vids it shows someone drilling tyhe frame at full speed. Best way I know to dull a drill bit. Proper way to drill metal is the bump method. Bump the trigger, get a bite of metal and let off. The drill bit makes it's best cuts coming from a stop (breaking the static friction).

I just installed the kit in my new to me Gen 1 KLR (had 3k original miles). I only rode 700 miles before installing the kit, but have personally witnessed the temperature swings in stock configuration. The swings have been leveled out, and it maintains a steady temp reading now, so to those nay-sayers or anyone unsure if this kit works...............it does. For the money and time investment, I consider it a worthwhile upgrade. If/when I get another KLR, I'll install a Bob on it also.

I'm sorry, but videos that don't show the whole job are in my opinion misleading, and could encourage people to dive in & end up in this case ruining their carbs. You obviously know what you're doing, but you skipped the part where one has to grind off the tips of the choke flap retaining screws, which have been peened over. Otherwise you'll knacker the thread in the mounting bar when removing them. When replacing them, one should always use new screws, and Loctite them in before giving the protruding thread a dink with a small chisel for added security. If one of the screws should undo and fall out it'll get sucked into the engine and most likely ruin it. I've been fixing bikes for over 30 years for a living, and nowadays I overhaul more carbs than ever, because being old school most younger mechanics don't know how they work. I see a lot of carbs that have been worked upon by the uninitiated, and in some cases they've been ruined because someone forgot the three F's rule....Carbs are fiddly, finite, and fragile. All the best.
